Keany is not a common name - the 1911 census shows only 3 people named Keany in County Dublin. Christopher Keany, 27, was an agricultural labourer, he and wife Alice are not a likely fit for this leafy suburb. I like Michael Keany, then 21, Electrical Engineer. He would be 52 in 1942.

That Michael Keany is from Sligo - there are 67 Keanys in the 1911 census in Sligo.

According to stillslibrary.rte.ie/indexplus/image/0506/015.html, it's Portobello Barracks. "British soldiers follow Major Clarke out of Portobello Barracks, Rathmines, Dublin on 17 May 1922. Portobello Barracks was later renamed Cathal Brugha Barracks in 1952."

It wasn’t until 1928 (UK) that total voting emancipation occurred for women with voting under the age of 30 (Rep of the People Act). My mum recalled her mother voting for the first time. But yes - definitely a historic day today. I assume it was the same in N. Ireland. When did it change in the Rep of Ireland? This is stunningly clear photo - it is easy to see their features - they would be recognisable.
