DannyM8 You've convinced me. And I've replaced the gammy (technical term) photo with a clearer one for you...

Most of the soldiers are from the Army Service Corps (ASC), who provided both horsed and motorised 'drivers' for the Army, which fits with the Royal Army Motor Depot location. In the centre is a warrant officer (sergeant major) of the ASC (note coat of arms rank badge on lower sleeve), and to the left is a Lance Corporal of the South Lancashire Regiment.

Streetview? I think City Hall must be at right, and from the angle of the sun, we're on the North side...

That'd put Robinson & Cleaver somewhere to the left, and I don't really see anything that looks like this (which was taken about 2 weeks later): www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/10990906846/ (Not that I can find anything that looks right, myself)

Niall McAuley Wait. I think you're in the right place, but wrong direction. The photo is looking up Donegall Place, with City Hall behind the photographer. The street behind has the same shape as in this photo. It's taken in the morning.
