Hello!

This website is built by the Flickr Foundation to showcase the photographs and members in the Flickr Commons program. Please enjoy! 🌸

This website is a work in progress. Please pop back from time to time to see improvements as we make them.

We launched commons.flickr.org on January 16, 2024 to celebrate the 16th birthday of the Flickr Commons, and we look forward to growing new members, building community around great photographs, and developing this explorer website further over the coming years.

About Flickr Commons

The Flickr Commons was launched on January 16, 2008 with The Library of Congress as its first member. Since then, it has grown to a cohort of 100 international cultural heritage organizations from the very large to the very small.

The program has four main objectives:

  1. To increase public access to archival photography collections,
  2. To provide tools and resources to help interested researchers enhance the photographs’ descriptions and other metadata, and
  3. To return this new information to the contributing cultural member organizations, and
  4. To protect and attend to the long life of this unique collection.
