    TWO HOUSES WRECKED
    Ruthless Destruction By Rathmines Raiders

    The residence of Mrs. Eamonn Ceannt, at 44 Oakley road, Rathmines, was visited on Sunday by about a dozen men, who smashed the windows, doors and furniture.
    The house is directly opposite that of Mr. Alex. McCabe, which had been blown to pieces earlier in the night by a land mine.
    Earlier in the night two men arrived and said they were going to burn the house. However, they went away without doing so.

    The second raid occurred at 12.50 a.m., while Mrs. Ceannt, her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth O'Brennan, and a lodger, Miss Moore, were finishing a late supper. Answering a knock, Mrs. Ceannt found about 10 or 12 men outside the door. They peremptorily ordered her to clear, out at once. They also ordered her mother and Miss Moore to leave, and did not allow them time to take anything with them but the clothes they wore.

    WORK OF DESTRUCTION
    The ladies sought shelter in a neighbouring house, from which they could hear the sound of breaking glass and the crash of furniture, as the men went about the work of destruction. This went on for over an hour, when the party left in two motor cars in which they had driven to the house. Mrs. Ceannt returned to her house at 8 o'clock in the morning, and a terrible scene of wreckage and confusion met her gaze. Every window had been smashed out, doors were broken, and furniture of all descriptions was strewn about, broken to splinters.
    A fine piano in the sittingroom, was hopelessly torn to pieces, tables, chairs, pictures and ornaments were all thrown about and destroyed.
    Photographs of Mr. Eamonn Ceannt, who was executed after Easter Week, 1916, were destroyed. A number of shots had been discharged as there were bullet marks through some of the windows and also in pictures. A collection of toys belonging to Mrs. Ceannt's son, who is in College, was also taken out and smashed.
