Does anyone know what that little cloth sign in everyone's window means? The one with the blue star surrounded by the red border? I think my mom told me a long time ago that it meant you could go to that house if you were lost or in trouble or something, but people don't have them anymore :(

I'm rushed with a feeling of "home" when I look at this photo....though I was born many years later and never lived in D.C. I have to keep coming back to take a peek into the past. I'm curious about the narrow pocket between the doors...is that a passage to the back of the building?

I think the cloth sign in the window indicates that a member of the family is in the service.

Barmsijs, you are right. It's not Spiegelgracght; the front of the house is similar to Lijnbaansgracht 287.

I remember Pepsi's jingle from the 40s: "Pepsi Cola hits the spot, twelve full ounces that's a lot, twice as much for a nickel, too. Pepsi Cola is the drink for you!" I also liked its taste better than that of Coke.
