    HAUNTED AND ABANDONED
    The house was located just off the Ferrycarrig to Killurin road.
    Elizabeth Deane, known as ‘Lady Dane’, was a daughter of Hamilton Grogan of Johnstown Castle. An animal lover, she had the swan drinking trough installed in the Faythe. When her husband died, her cousin Florence moved into Ardcandrisk as her companion. Lady Dane later bequeathed the house to Florence.
    When the house passed to Nathaniel Cookman of Monart House, he claimed to have been visited by the ghost of Florence one night. From then on, Cookman refused to spend another night in the house and instead slept in his boat on the Slaney. He finally abandoned the mansion and allowed it to fall into ruin. ...
