Inside Newcastle Central Station, 1948

  • Christine Waterson said:
When I started my first ever job in 1976, I had to go by train to central station and then walk up Westgate Road, to Rutherford Street and Bath Lane. I worked at the printers, Co-operative Press. This scene reminds me of all the times I had to race through the old station to catch my train home, my short cut was to race down Rutherford Street, across the road, down Pink Lane, straight through the main entrance and through to the platforms going to the coast. The ticket collectors on the gate always held the gate for me, or egg me on to "hurry". Happy days.

Doctor immunising a child, 1941

  • Vesna Verencevic said:
Prevention of disease through immunization is always the best way to help children develop and grow without major disruption.
  • Annette Cadell said:
The vaccine was most likely the diptheria toxoid and pertussis vaccine. Australia has been at the forefront of childhood immunisation.

Fatfield from Penshaw Station

  • BlacknWhite Chris said:
This isn't Fatfield, its Gladstone Terrace, New Penshaw which was next to Penshaw train station. This view is looking towards the river in the direction of Mount Pleasant. I was born while my family lived in Gladstone Terrace in 1967 :) Love all the old photos by the way
