We are the government agency responsible for cultural heritage and historic environment issues in Sweden. Our public archives hold about four million photographs – including copy prints, glass plates and other negatives, slides and digital copies. The photographs were taken over a period stretching from the later part of the 19th century until today. More about our photo collections Our photo collections include individual collections from various times – such as that of Carl Curman, mainly from the latter part of the 19th century – as well as the Board’s own recent photographic work and photographs taken over more than a century in connection with the activities of the Board (which actually was founded in the year 1630! – long before photography was invented).

What a lovely scene. I'm getting vibes from southern Sweden (Småland?), maybe because it reminds me of "Emil i Lönneberga"! Or maybe further south? I wonder if the (very cool) thatched roof could be a clue as to where it was taken? The boy's clogs? And the way the two buildings are joined together like that, that seems atypical for most of Sweden.

grytlappar I'm glad you like the photo! As you suggest; the clogs, the thatched roof and the buildings points to southern Sweden. (Halland?) Besides, Salfon Almquist, the probable photographer, had his early studio in Helsingborg in Skåne. /Anna B.

Also, the cat is very cool! And alert - very aware of the camera. :) I don't think I've ever seen a white cat with a striped tail! I'm guessing that woman is coming out of the root cellar.
