There for the suffrage parade - another shot of the crowd, panned to the right a bit. Day before the inauguration.

roketpad: Thank you for your identifying the suffrage parade. We will update the information and reload the description.

This may be part of the rowdy crowd of spectators (male) who engulfed the suffrage marchers: www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9803/suffrage.html
  • Susan Barsy said:
I believe the marchers are gathered at the front of the frame. (and those look like raised billy clubs in the right foreground.) This appears to have been taken before the parade has begun See: www.seeingsuffrage.com/the-book-2/the-photographs/photos-... Interesting shot because there is more than one locus of attention. Note the African American lady in the foreground and her companion.

Suffragettes at capitol: Mrs. [Russell] McLennan, Mrs. Aletha Taft, Louise Bridges, Mrs. [Richard Coke] Burleson, Alberta Hill, F. Ragsdale (LOC)

Same group here with several comments. The photo above notes "Mrs. Russell McLennan"--the one linked just gives her last name. All of these are 3 March 1913.
  • The Library of Congress said:
cotinis: Thanks for the comment. We will be adding the names of all the women depicted to the source data and then reloading the description to Flickr.
