There is a comment from benstaunton 12 years ago - "This is my great grand father. He was from Kilkenny and came from a family who had several members involved in founding the socialist movement in Ireland. He was a friend and close associate of James Connolly." -

Slum landlords, milk adulterators and food fakers could sleep easy. Irish Independent - Friday 21 February 1913:
NORTH CITY WARD ELECTION.
So Mr Lyng was unsuccessful, unless his sole object in standing was to split the vote as Mr Gately suggested.
The election for Councillor, In the room of the late Mr. R. J. Union, to represest North City Ward in the Dublin Corporation took place yesterday, the result being declared last night as follows:James Gately - 475
Joe O'Donerty (U.I.L.) - 434
Thos. J. Lyng (I.L.P.) - 54
Patrick M'Grene - 47
There were 11 spoiled votes. Mr. C. S. Campbell acted as Deputy Returning Officer and Mr. Gately, in moving a vote of thanks to him, said a Socialist had been started to split the vote. -
