Lucy Kyle Burleson (1894-1967), a yeowoman in the Navy, and a daughter of Postmaster General Albert S. Burleson (1856-1937) and Mrs. Adele Lubbock Steiner Burleson (1856-1948), was married to Ensign Charles Greene Grimes, II (1893-1993), U.S.N.R., on November 2, 1918, in Washington, D.C.  Ensign Grimes of Dayton, Ohio, was a son of Edward D. Grimes and Eleanor B. Leyler Grimes. [1] [2] [3]

President and Mrs. Wilson, Vice President Marshall, the Secretary of State and Mrs. Lansing, Mrs. William Gibbs McAdoo (President Wilson’s daughter, Eleanor Randolph Wilson married to the Secretary of Treasury), as well as many other members of the Cabinet were among the invited guests. [4]

Three years earlier, Lucy was at the center of much engagement speculation in Washington as she was frequently in the company of Justice James Clark McReynolds of the Supreme Court. Lucy was twenty-one at the time and McReynolds was fifty-three. [5]

In 1914, Lucy Burleson was active in the "cotton week" sales and activities to stimulate the cotton industries and aid the South. [6]

Charles rose to the rank of US Navy Captain, serving in the Pacific Fleet during World War II. He was appointed by President Franklin D Roosevelt to be the US Navy’s Assistant Secretary, and was an advisor to the President on chemicals.

After the war, Charles was a chemist and general manager for a varnish company. Charles and Lucy lived at Van Buren, Montgomery County, Ohio, from late in 1919 and had three children – Adele Grimes Castle (1919-2008), Eleanor Grimes Butt (b.1921), and Burleson (Burley) Grimes (Sr.) (1922-1982).  When Lucy Kyle Burleson Grimes died in 1967 she had twelve grandchildren. Note: A "Special to The" New York Times article of October 30, 1918, I believe, misidentifies the groom as "Ensign Edward Greene Grimes". Edward Grimes was the father of the groom, Charles Greene Grimes, II. All other (multiple) references identify the groom as Charles Green Grimes, the son of Edward Greene Grimes – as have I in this comment.

Same group here with several comments. The photo above notes "Mrs. Russell McLennan"--the one linked just gives her last name. All of these are 3 March 1913.
