My great aunt , K. Pearl Woodlief marched in this parade. Being the only NC delegate, she carried the heavy NC flag throughout the parade. She skipped work from the Durham, NC law firm where she was employed and when she telegraphed them on Monday morning, she was surprised to gain the support of the male lawyers of her firm. She later worked with Alice Paul and others to establish a local chapter in NC and I still possess many of the letters she wrote to NC congressmen asking for their support. She was born in Kittrell, NC in 1888.

Taken on March 3, 1913, as the President-elect and First Lady Ellen Wilson (the first Mrs. Wilson) arrived in Washington, D. C., the day before the Inauguration. No First Lady participated in an inauguration ceremony until the precedent was set at Wilson's second inaugural, in March, 1917. (And in that year, it was his second wife, Edith Bolling Galt Wilson, who joined him in the carriage.)
