Suffragettes and petitions (LOC)

Might be 1914 given the label on the side.
  • Wystan said:
@gauzy_dress: that label is a Bain serial number, not a date. Other photos on both sides of this one in the sequence are from 1913.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called 1910s Fashion, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

Suffrage Hay Wagon (LOC)

The American Express Co. delivery van could be an electric vehicle. It has solid rubber tires and only one foot pedal. The battery compartment might be mounted under the chassis, between the wheels. Note the vertical steering column.

Another view of the Suffrage Hay Wagon, bears the date 8/15/13:

[Suffragists in parade] (LOC)

NYTimes reported in 1913: "HEMPSTEAD, L.I., May 22. -- The townsfolk here are waiting with much curiosity for the suffrage pageant which Gen. Rosalie Jones has arranged for next Saturday afternoon. On that day those interested in the suffrage cause, will march from Mineola to this place. At the trolley junction the parade will be reviewed by Assemblyman O'Keefe and officials of Nassau County." Two days later, also in the New York Times: "Hempstead, N.Y., May 24. -- Three miles of public highway between Mineola and Hempstead were crowded this afternoon with a long line of automobiles from all parts of Nassau County as they followed the suffrage pageant, in which 500 women and a few men marched as enthusiastic upholders of the cause."
