NY Times, January 11, 1913: Mrs. Burleson, Wife of Army Officer In Command of Suffrage Pageant. Most Internet references to a Mrs. R.C. Burleson pertain to a much older woman, the wife of Dr. Rufus C. Burleson, of Waco, Texas, who was a Baptist minister and long-time President of Baylor University. He died in 1901. I've been unable to find any connection between the two R.C. Burlesons.

Whyaduck: Thanks for your information about Mrs. Burleson and the March 3, 1913 suffrage march in Washington, D.C. I think the subject 's fuller name is Mrs. Richard Coke Burleson. See this diagram of the march for her name at the bottom of the image: hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/ppmsca.02946 . We will update the information in the source data and reload the description.

Mrs. Richard Coke Burleson was the former May Walker, born in San Saba, Texas, in 1889. Richard Burleson, son of Leigh Burleson, was also born in San Saba, in 1881. Two or three pages of a book called The Guns of Meeting Street by T. Felder Dorn concern the later lives of the Burlesons. In 1940, three years after a bitter divorce, May Burleson shot and killed her husband's second wife, the former Isabella Knowlton, in a Columbia, South Carolina hotel cafeteria. I don't have the book and only know what appears in a Google Books preview, which does not include the outcome of May's trial, though a line in the Bibliography indicates that the jury handed down a verdict of manslaughter with recommendation of mercy. Maybe I'll try to get my local library to buy a copy.
