USS Recruit was a wooden replica of a battleship built by the US Navy in New York City, as a recruiting tool and training ship during World War I. Recruit was located in Union Square from 1917 until the end of the war. In 1920 the Recruit was decommissioned and dismantled.

This and the following 9 photos are from the ceremony on Decoration Day/Memorial Day, May 30, 1917, for the handover, by New York to the Navy and Marines, of the now-completed model battleship/recruiting station U.S.S.
