    beachcomber - if you look closely you will notice that the officer closest to camera is dressed differently, obviously not a driver but a senior member of the service. I'd say it's the boss.

    Steve Pearson Hey, you are right! And the ambulances are right-hand drive. And all different. The Persistent URL says this is 1938. The ambulances had been fitted with "wireless telephone equipment" a couple of years before - SMH 11/01/1936, p.16 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/17237868 Also I found out exactly where this was - under Central Station.
