A similar photo ran in the Evening star. [volume], September 04, 1921, Image 49 with the caption: "Miss Julia Marlowe and her husband, E. H. Sothern, arrive in New York from abroad to commence a series of lectures on Shakespeare." chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83045462/1921-09-04/ed-...

A Getty Images photo (dated May 20, 1922) has them on board a liner with the same (or very similar) hats. www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/mr-e-h-southern-and... But the camera in another Getty Images photo, www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/aquitania-leaves-mr... tagged with the same May 1922 date is not the same.

swanq Good research, but the date is May 2 (not 20), 1922. The New York herald., May 02, 1922, Page 10, col. 6 confirms that the Aquitania sailed for Cherbourg and Southampton on that date, with E. H. Sothern and his wife on board (chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83045774/1922-05-02/ed-...). S. also photos in The Bridgeport times and evening farmer., May 04, 1922, Magazine, Image 13 chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn92051227/1922-05-04/ed-... and in the Omaha daily bee., May 07, 1922, SPORT NEWS CLASSIFIED ADS, Image 37, col. 1 chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn99021999/1922-05-07/ed-... Although the camera is different, I presume that this Bain photo is from 1922, especially since other photos nearby (of the Jacksons and likely the photo of Caroline Ghidoni) are from this year as well.
