About George Wilson Cooper George Wilson Cooper was born in Combs, Suffolk Uk in 1912 and migrated to Queensland with his family as a child. He studied the art school, Central Technical College, Brisbane, and then worked as a political cartoonist, illustrator, animator, and graphic designer. Hw as a Foundation Member of the Society of Sculptors, Queensland. He exhibited and won prizes in provincial areas of Queensland and Northern New South Wales. James Wieneke (1906-1981) was well-known in Queensland art circles from the 1930s to the 70s, even serving as Director of the Queensland Art Gallery (1967-74). During the Second World War (1939-45), he became a sergeant in the Field Engineers of the Australian Army. He not only saw deadly action in New Guinea and witnessed the Japanese surrender but also drew and wrote about his military life. After the war, Wieneke morally and materially supported William Bolton’s establishment of the Lionel Lindsay Gallery and Library Collection. Kathleen Leichney b. 1903 Also known as Kathleen Coren, Kit Coren Artist (Painter) Kathleen Leichney had an extensive career in Queensland in both the visual arts and in music. Known as C.D., Dorothy Coleman was a successful commercial photographer known for her photographs of society people in Brisbane. An innovative photographer, C.D. was highly sought after for the effects she could achieve in portraiture and dance photography. C.D.'s photography was published widely in newspapers and magazines of the time. She employed and trained a number of women photographers and colorists in her photographic studio.
