If you consider the number of times Ingham has flooded it is easy to understand this type of architecture and how high the stumps were. Saves evacuating!

And the wide wrap-around verandah is an adaptation to Ingham's appalling summer humidity and heat.
Unidentified people on the verandah of Araluen at Redcliffe

"Araluen" was a house that was located on Whytecliffe Parade, Woody Point. The image is double exposed with people swimming in the ocean. It must have been a holiday house as there was a number of people who stayed there noted in the Brisbane Courier in the 1920s. It was "FOR LET" by D. Shields, Woody Point. I would suggest that the siding referred to is "Oorindi", which is approx 60km east of Cloncurry, on the railway line to Townsville. This one must have slipped through the net, other SLQ images of Cooyal have the correct spelling.

Thanks John and Ashleigh for pointing this out. It is great to have input from those with knowledge of the regions. John, apologies for the very extended delay in responding to your suggestion. I will have this amended in our catalogue record. Kate (for State Library of Queensland)
