Worked in a plant near Spartanburg, South Carolina, back in 1972, making surgical gloves pretty much the same way as this. We used larger racks of the ceramic hands, though, which were dipped first in latex, then run through an oven and baked on. After the oven, they were dipped in water containing talc. The racks were set on carts that ran along diminutive tracks resembling railroad tracks. You’d lift the rack off the cart with a hoist that would swing it over and dip it into the respective vats. Hot work with few breaks. And mindless, I guess, apart from safety awareness. I think latex surgical gloves are still in use today, so I wonder if the production has changed.
