  Pictured is a Peledang (Indonesian) or Tena (Lamaholot) from Lamalera, Lemmata, NTT, East Indonesia. Its sail and biped mast have been lowered while the boat is being guided to shore where it will be beached, then pushed over logs into its boatshed. It will have been out to sea since daybreak hunting for sperm whale or any other smaller cetaceans, or other big sea game such as manta ray, marlin, sunfish to mention a few. The harpooner launches himself and the harpoon from the platform at the bow to give the harpoon as much force as possible. They are totally subsistent fishermen and use every part of the animal either as food or to trade for produce of the land from neighbouring villages. Incidentally, the photo needs to be laterally reversed.

  The picture shows a woven palm leaf sail belonging to a Peledang (or Tena) fishing boat from Lamalera, Lembata, East Indonesia. It is being repaired. In the foreground are logs which are used to facilitate the launching/beaching of the boats as they are pushed out to sea across the black volcanic sand beach, or back up the beach into their boatsheds when they return mid-afternoon.
