Not a Swordfish (which has no teeth), this is a Sawfish bill. A shallow water cartilaginous fish it would sometimes be encountered by fishermen in these tropical waters.

Part of the bow of a Peledang (or Tenâ) from Lamalera, Lembata, E Indonesia. The village is Catholic, and being a fishing village, it has St Peter as its patron saint. The word 'Christ' can be made out painted on the hull, along with an eye at the front. The villagers believe that boats have a spirit and need eyes to see where they are going when out at sea. What can also be seen is a section of large diameter bamboo, part of the Hamma Lollo (Harpooner's platform) which extends forward of the bow and from which the harpooner launches the harpoon and himself toward the big sea game or whale they are hunting.
