This is one of P&O's "M" Class, 10 liners were built for the Australian service between 1903 (Moldavia) and 1911 (Medina), but 6 were lost to enemy action during World War 1, and the other 4 were scrapped during the early 1930s and replaced by the 5 Straths.

FredV45 Brilliant! I was about to work through the list of "M" class ships, but think she is the first in the list, RMS MOLDAVIA (1) which was flagship for the Anniversary Day Regatta on Tuesday 26 January 1904. Illustrations of the event, showing ladies in white frocks boarding the MOLDAVIA - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/page/5702818 Read All About It! - "moored off Neutral Bay","NE winds" etc - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14595774 Description of the ship which had arrived four days previously on her maiden voyage - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14594783 Wikipedia - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Moldavia

Hmmm - having second thoughts about this - I might have the wrong ship and year. Comparing this photo with the photos in the AT&CJ (first link above), the flag on the aft mast is different, gangway is in the wrong place, davits are facing the wrong way ... etc. Oh dear! Back to the drawing board ...
