Belas e elegantes Senhoras...bons tempos!

A quick check of the 1930 and 1933 NSW electoral Rolls shows Inez Louisa Marden and Walter Laurence Marden living at "Fromelles", 38 Anzac Parade, Matraville in 1930. So it is "Iney", diminutive of "Inez". In other years, she comes up as "Eney" as well as "Iney" in the '40s and '50s and even "Incy" in 1963 (when she and Walter are are at 1115 Anzac Parade, Matraville).

No worries. I tried Trove newspapers first, but she was only ever Mrs I L Marden there. Electoral rolls are always a good place to check names despite the fact that the names can sometimes be mangled in the printing of the rolls.

In 1912 J. P. Morgan decided to demolish his offices at 23 Wall Street. Demolition started on 30 April, 1913. New offices for the same firm were to be constructed upon the site, shown in the photograph above. From this photograph it appears that the Y.M.C.A. appeal billboard was put up on this prominent position between demolition of the old building and construction of the new. Flickr user TVL1970 has tagged the photograph as 25 Broad Street, so perhaps it also bears that address. @Bob Meade: TVL 1970 in his tag (now withdrawn) evidently mistook the Wall Street site in the photo for 25 Broad Street, which was then the headquarters of the YMCA (and of the fundraising campaign). [The address "25 Broad Street" appears on the clock dial.] The four million dollar "whirlwind" campaign, for a joint YMCA/YWCA, was the largest fundraiser in world history up to that time. Campaign "clocks" like the one shown here were erected at various strategic locations to keep the project in the public eye. Manya Jokel (or Yokel) Gersen (or Gerson) was a dentist in Elizabethtown NY from 1920-1961. She was married to Dr. Alexander Gersen, mother of Ruth, Edith, and Daniel Gersen. The dental chair used by Dr. Gersen is on display at the County Attic, Adirondack History Center.
