  Fascinating. Not an area I'm familiar with so Googled it. Streetview shows that same location but today and 'modern'. The pub is still there. The distant pointy spoil heap has been reclaimed and lowered but can be made out too. www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.8219949,-1.4519736,3a,75y,50.43...

  I've had a few pints in there. In recent history (Well about 25 years ago) it's where the well known Russel (Lol) Lawson uttered the immortal words, "I went for a chinese take away last night. I ate half, wor lass ate half and we threw the other half away!" I wonder if the lads all sat on their hunkers are waiting for work or the pit bus to get them up to Eppleton?
