veronicadawber Well, that's interesting now. Had a lot of info coming in on members of the Torrie family over the last couple of days. There's a Peg Torrie in this photo. You could be right if The Home & Colonial Stores became an L & N shop. The last L & N in Waterford was on Broad Street, and it closed in 1986.

Wikipedia article on the Home and Colonial Stores . They specialized in tea (1/4 per lb here). Stores all over the UK using that logo - eventually merged into Safeways. The faces on those shop assistants at large size! Golly, I find myself sucked right into these old photos ,,, and wanting a cup of tea!

The main L&N shop was on the opposite side of Broad Street to the. Home and Colonial The L&N had a huge network of shops all owned by the Torrie family. The shops were in several locations in Waterford city and in almost every town in the south east.The business was sold to Super Valu in the 1980s.
