Elizabeth Carman was the 9-year-old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin Carman; Mrs. Carman was on trial for killing Lulu Bailey, and Elizabeth testifed at the inquest in the summer of 1914.

The shot was fired through a window. Carman's wife Florence Conklin Carman was later tried for murder. It seems like the trial ended in a hung jury, and I can't find any news that she was retried and she was retried in 1915. Many many news hits on Google News for "carman" in the 1914-15 range though, if someone wants to sift through them.
