NYT of July 9, 1914 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F10614FA3F5E13738... indicated that he was a friend and fellow physician of Carman, and was at the Carman house treating Florence Carman's mother for a heart attack the day Florence was arrested.

Celia Coleman was the maid who testified that she heard her employer Mrs. Edwin Carman confess to killing Lulu Bailey. Miss Coleman's intellectual capacity and memory were questioned on the stand--she was not able to add numbers or say how old she was, which was taken as reason to doubt her reliability as a witness on other matters.
