Elizabeth Carman was the 9-year-old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin Carman; she testified in the 1914 inquest into the death of Lulu Bailey, which took place in the Carmans' home, and for which Mrs. Carman was to stand trial.

A celebration was held to commemorate this momentous occasion on the barren 5-acre (20,000 m2) site at the corner of Old Country Road and Franklin Avenue.
