This is a northbound tram on route 35 at Holborn station on the Kingsway subway. The subway linked the Victoria Embankment and Bloombury. There was one other station on the line. Tram 1969 is one of the E/3 class, built by Hurst Nelson for London County Council with EMB trucks and BTH electrical equipment. They had 74 seats. Current collection was from electrical conduit and the slot in the track between the rails can be seen in the photo.

The Kingsway subway closed when trams were withdrawn from London in 1952. The southern end became a one way underpass for car traffic: the northern end is still in existence but is disused.

The northern end of the Kingsway Subway is used as an emergency control room and was last used during the London 2012 Olympics.

One of the London Transport concrete bus stops, design influenced by Christian Barman, and with the finials on top - the lower was a red 'bobbin' for Central area red buses, and the upper in green, denoting that the Green Line 709/10/11 stopped here.

The bus is bonnet number (fleet number) RTL 929 - a Metro-Cammell bodied Leyland Titan delivered in 1950.
