  Suck Diesel Ah now, you couldn't expect to have people staying there back in the day walk 4km to the train. You'd ruin the bottom of your dress or get your recently polished shoes dirty. And it sure does rain a fair bit down there. Even today, I doubt anyone staying at the Castlerosse Hotel, which is there now, walk from the train.

  The street looks uncannily clean considering the fact that there were horses on it; was the photo retouched? Or, it could be that New York had an extremely efficient group of street-sweepers at the time.

  Number 8 bus from Mile end via Bank, Aldwych, Trafalgar Square. I think this might be somewhere round the Aldwych as there's a theatre on the right. Sadly, though it does still go past Bank, the Number 8 no longer runs this route.
