Wystan The "troubles" typically refers to the time from the 1960s to 1990s.
This photo [between ca. 1910 and ca. 1915], would have been taken in the run up to the 1916 Easter Rising. -

"The Troubles" originally referred to the period 1919 to 1922 in Ireland, following on from the 1916 Rising. It began to be used for the Northern Ireland conflict in the 1970s.
