  About the trams in Brisbane "On a crisp, winter’s morning in June 1897, Brisbane’s first electric tram trundled along tracks from Woolloongabba to the southern end of Victoria Bridge. Replacing the horse-drawn trams of the mid 1880s, the 20-strong fleet was an exciting feat of motoring for the growing metropolis of Brisbane."   Another good photograph. Particularyliking the vehicles and dirt on the buildings - I can't imagine how dirty the air could be back then!

  There are offices on the roof of this portico, since 1959.

  The tram wires are still there, but no tram rails. When did they stop trams in Newcastle?

  Good question. The last Newcastle tram ran in 1950. The wires in this picture were used for trolleybuses.

  I'm an 'outsider' and live in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland. I've travelled through Washington on many occasions via public transport (Wreckenton to Sunderlaand) and can still vision the scenes you've posted onto these pages. Washington's a fascinating mix of old mining villages with their unique layouts, joined together by newer housing and open green space.

  This photograph is mid 1970s (not 60s) as the bus is in Northern General's National Bus Company poppy red livery with white fleetnames and the early white "double arrow" symbol.
