This is a northbound tram on route 35 at Holborn station on the Kingsway subway. The subway linked the Victoria Embankment and Bloombury. There was one other station on the line. Tram 1969 is one of the E/3 class, built by Hurst Nelson for London County Council with EMB trucks and BTH electrical equipment. They had 74 seats. Current collection was from electrical conduit and the slot in the track between the rails can be seen in the photo.

The visitors are watching a conductor filling in his waybill. In front of him is a rack containing sets of Bell Punch tickets. Each set is for a separate fare value. As the tickets are banded and not a single colour, the conductor must be working on either a tram or trolleybus route. Bus tickets were single colour.
