Welcome back. There was an English / Prendergast wedding at Ballyduff Church on the 12/06/1918 see Wedding Certificate.
The Priest was Fr. Prendergast, Groom is John English (I saw some of his movies!) Bride is Ellen Christina Prendergast. Witnesses were Michael English and Mary Slattery.

The lady behind him also has a bit of a smile, and the one on the left looks to be struggling to express a smirk. I wonder when it became obligatory to force a smile for photographs. I once read that the grim expressions in old portraits were the result of long exposures - it's easier to maintain a neutral expression for a few seconds than a smile. Anyway, I'm glad the gent at the back is maintaining a bit of decorum with his grim expression.

pennylrichardsca (now at ipernity) Lovely that Kathleen May Crossley was identified, and by her great niece! Yes, these early watches look very large and "masculine" compared to later 20th century women's styles with teeny faces - on the watches, not on the women ;)

Plus, can't believe that I missed our 2nd Anniversary on Flickr Commons! We launched on 1 June 2011. Would just like to wish us all a very happy anniversary (what's a second anniversary - is it paper?). Thank you all for making this "marriage" lively, interesting and fun. And we almost never shout at each other about map reading! :)

Those ladies using croquet hammers would obviously struggle to play tennis with these "bats"! Or was this "Irish Rules" tennis - if your opponent doesn't play fair bop them with a croquet hammer?
