Classrooms and Summer Camps
To become a successful officer a cadet must be
familiar with tactics and techniques of the combat
arms, and he must be strong in body and hardy in
spirit. So he spends many hours during the summer
at Camp Buckner, in the hills back of West Point,
firing all the weapons, bivouacking in the open, and
just plain marching like any other dogface (infan¬
tryman). Every year sees two classes in summer
camp: the new First and Third. While they are
there, the Plebes who have just arrived at the Acad¬
emy are given over to the careful supervision of
“New Cadet Details” of First Classmen, and the
new Second Class goes on a field trip to other
installations.

NYT story on November 14 said that Wilson's family also would be there: query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9407E5D7113CE6... The rumpled flag in the photo must indicate the Presidental box. So now we have to figure out who the guy in fur was -- an autograph hound? or a bodyguard in mufti?

This is fascinating: Dwight D. Eisenhower was a linebacker for Army in the 1912 game (which Army lost, 6-0). If only Ike had stayed around for another year, Wilson could have watched a future President playing ball!
