Morning of August 15, 1911. Togo toured the Brooklyn Naval Shipyards. According to the New York Times, August 3 1911. The Dreadnought North Dakota was in the Brooklyn Navy Yard along with the flagship Connecticut and new battleship Florida. Togo toured the northeast seaboard, visiting naval yards and with mayors in major cities for several days.

Review of NYTimes articles shows a few mentions around the 4th of July of several games in New York and Chicago. The Waseda Baseball Team website's history page says this was their second tour of the US, and ended 17 victories, 36 losses, one cancellation (forfeit?). The trip lasted from March 28th until August 17th. Brief article on Japan baseball history, describing book "Through a Diamond". Baseball was controversial in Japan at the time. In August when the Waseda team returned, an historic editorial was printed by Nitobe Inazo, comparing baseball's deceipt to picking pockets. (He preferred the manliness and honesty of rugby)

This photo is discussed in The Commons research thread. When I was digging around, I found that there were only a few (college) teams in Japan, so they often hosted international teams and traveled to play. I'd like to understand exactly how this counted as school credit... were they really learning English? Touring businesses and factories?
