May 27, 1905 - Japanese Adm. Togo decimated the Russian Baltic Fleet in the Korean Strait (Strait of Tsushima). Russia capitulated. This was the first war in which the yellow race defeated the white race since the days of the Mongols

Actually, I've just read that within Japanese culture today a person appearing to be asleep when a lecturer or presenter is speaking can signify confiednce in the speaker. I wonder if that applies to this pic of Admiral Togo.

This photo was taken on August 15, 1911. Togo is riding in the back of the car in this photo. This was taken at the Brooklyn Naval Yard just before or after he toured the dreadnought North Dakota. This was the beginning of a two week tour of seaports between Washington and Boston. Note that this is not in West Point. The car there only had three steel supports on the canopy.
