She is being towed out to sea. Possibly repaired after this in January 1912 ? - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/15304013 . On this (?) outward voyage she was carrying "35,147 bags of wheat" SMH 27/2/1912, p.10 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/15313426 I am doubtful due to the waterline looking low.

beachcomber australia Thanks for the detective work beachcomber. The waterline is looking too low to be carrying cargo you're right. The only other time it could be is 1902 (where it departed carrying coal). In May 1913 it went to Newcastle. Hmmmmm, perhaps this one is the TOURAINE in Newcastle in 1913!

That guy on the rope is having absolutely no impact, and those soldiers standing on the running boards of the trailing car stuck in the mud, would be far better off standing on the back bumper of the towing car. All the rope guy is doing is putting himself in harms way when the cars do move and he loses his footing and slips and falls and is run under the pulled car. All the guys in the back car are doing is weigh the car down in the mud and making it that much harder to pull out. How if they were all standing on the back bumper or running boards (safer) of the pulling car, they would give its rear tires more traction and help pull things out.

The Motor car was still new to many people , most soldiers would have had little experience of handling a motor car and they are not all like modern motor vehicles to drive
