Over the past century, Townsville developed into the commercial center for northern Queensland with major industries including meat and sugar processing, copper refining, railroad repair, timber milling, boat building, and manufacturing. Outside the southeast corner, Townsville is the largest city in regional Queensland with over 196,000 residents. Breakwater Marina's construction starting in 1986 was a development of state significance. The precinct was originally developed as part of the first stage of the Breakwater Island Casino Development, and the marina basin is bordered by public promenades along Sir Leslie Thiess Drive, Anzac Park, and Mariner's Peninsula. The Marina started construction in 1986, neighboring Sheraton Breakwater Hotel and Casino (now known as "The Ville") opened to the public in 1986 with another Townsville attraction, Reef Wonderland (now known as Reef HQ) opening 24 June 1987. Mount Isa (/ˈaɪzə/ EYE-zə) is a city in the Gulf Country region of Queensland, Australia. It came into existence because of the vast mineral deposits found in the area. Mount Isa Mines (MIM) is one of the most productive single mines in world history, based on the combined production of lead, silver, copper, and zinc. Hilton - More commonly known as Mineside, on the same side of the railway line as Mount Isa Mines and the Incitec Pivot Sulphuric Acid plant. New Farm is the land of the Turrbal people. The Turrbal people are the traditional owners of most of Brisbane, with their land reaching as far up as North Pine River and as far south as Logan River. New Farm was, shockingly enough, farming land tended to by convicts from the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement. New Farm became Brisbane’s second major farm, established in 1839 to replace the South Brisbane farming area. Therefore, New Farm was once upon a time literally a new farm. The farming area (which would later become New Farm Park) was bordered by two main thoroughfares. The roads were later named Brunswick Street and Merthyr Road. European families settled on sub-divisions around these thoroughfares. While it wasn’t unheard of to find an English, Irish, or Scottish family residing in New Farm, the majority of immigrants were of Italian descent. To this day, Italian culture continues to be a massive influence on the suburb.
