The person who wrote the original caption used the wrong common name. Pink Milk Wort is Polygala incarnata. The plant pictured is a Texas Thistle, Cirsium texanum.

Madeleine Talmage Force Astor Dick Fiermonte (1893-1940), wife of John Jacob Astor IV; they married in 1911, when she was 18 and he was 47. JJA IV died on the Titanic the next year; Madeleine was also on board, but survived: she was pregnant at the time, and gave birth to JJA VI soon after. In 1916, she remarried (a banker), giving up her right to any inheritance from JJA IV. She had two more sons and divorced her second husband in 1933.
