Wang came to the U.S. as Chief Justice of the Chinese Supreme Court and delegate to the Washington conference on disarmament and Far East questions, and as a member of a committee to revise the League of Nations covenant. The current caption confuses two people. Art is correct in stating that Chief Justice Wang Chung-hui (also C.H. Wang) is a different person. An obituary from 1984 states that Cheng-Hsu Wang was a banker who graduated from Yale (1916) and Princeton (M.A. History and Politics, 1917): "He worked on Wall Street until volunteering with the International Y.M.C.A. in France during World War I. Returning later to China, he was in banking in Singapore until he became manager of Overseas-Banking China Corp. in Shanghai. Wang returned to New York in 1936 as president of the newly established New York office of the Bank of China. During the turmoil and aftermath of the Sino-Japanese War, he was transferred to Burma, later to Kunming, Rangoon, and Calcutta. Following the communist takeover of mainland China and the recognition of it by India, Wang got to Hong Kong in 1957, and thence, with his wife, Eling, to the U.S., where they settled in Washington, D.C.
