According to the New York Times article of Thursday September 19, 1912, Sir George Reid arrived in New York the previous day. (ref. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9C06E5D6123CE633A... According to ellis Island records he also arrived on Caronia from Liverpool on May 04, 1913. He is also known to have visited the USA in November 1917 for a speaking tour, during which he contracted pneumonia and had to cancel much of the engagements. (ref. about 1917 speaking tour: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9901E4DB163AE532A... ) According to Ellis Island records he arrived on New York, from Liverpool on October 22, 1917. Lady Reid was later to become Dame Flora Reid in her own right: "During the First World War his wife Flora Reid worked to provide services to the Australian troops. For this she was made a Dame Grand Cross of the British Empire in 1917 and was among the first to receive the award." Interesting. She looks a bit masculine, but I do not mean that derogatorily. It perhaps helped her back in those days as very few women received doctorates in any field. Good for you, Dr. Shaw.

Where did she graduated from?

"In 1873, she entered Albion College, paying for her two years of education there by preaching and giving lectures on temperance. In 1876, she left Albion to attend Boston Theological Seminary. Upon graduation, in 1878, as the only woman in her class, she took charge of a church in East Dennis, Massachusetts, but the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church refused her application for ordination because she was a woman. It also took steps to revoke her preaching license. Finally, in 1880, Shaw convinced the Methodist Protestant Church to grant her ordination so she could administer the sacraments and continue her ministry in East Dennis. In addition to ministering at two churches, Shaw earned a medical degree from Boston University in 1886. However, she never practiced medicine." En un intento por detener la oleada revolucionaria, el dictador dio comienzos a sus promesas de reformas, el 1 de abril (día en que se tomó esta foto) en su informe anual a la Nación dijo que ya no habría reelección, que devolvería su autonomía a los municipios; destituyó a algunos gobernadores y jefes políticos impopulares y se modificó su gabinete (esta foto), aunque José Ives Limantour permaneció como Secretario de Hacienda. El 12 de abril Ramón Corral, el impopular Vicepresidente, fue persuadido de dejar el país. Estas promesas y cambios no frenaron a los revolucionarios. Dr. Roberto Duarte
