Here we see the building which for most of its existence has been known as State Government House, in Sydney. It's a long and complicated story, but following Federation in 1901, what had been State Government House became the Governor-General's official Sydney residence, and it was known as Federal Government House. In 1913, the Commonwealth Government acquired Admiralty House, which then became the Governor-General's official Sydney residence, and the Federal connection with State Government House ceased. State Government House again became the official residence of the NSW Governor with the arrival of Sir Walter Davidson in February 1922. From 1901-1917 the NSW Governor's official residence had been Cranbrook, at Bellevue Hill.
