The few photos we put up are actually part of a larger collection of showing the retail areas in Hartlepool such as Lynn Street, Musgrave Street, Burbank taken by a photographer called John Boagey in the 1960s. They're a fantastic collection to show how that particular part of Hartlepool looked prior to the demolition or change of many of these streets. Interesting to see how many shopping streets there were prior Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.

These streets would have provided a far more intersting alternative shopping experience today if they had been saved. One could imagine thriving street cafes, craft shops, boutiques, specialist hobby shops etc.

Very unusual angle used on this shot which makes for an interesting photo. The element of movement has been captured beautifully. Such a shame this vibrant "hub" of the town could not have been saved in the mould of say 'Beamish', as a current day tourist attraction. My mother worked in The Empire Theatre and loved the old place.
