This is the derelict mill of James Singleton (1777-1849) which was demolished in the early 1900s after milling declined from 1870. Being on a tidal river it required a slightly different method in powering the 5M diameter water wheel than the usual water rushing past the wheel through a diversion channel or 'race'. A dam was filled by the rising tide, the inlet valve was closed at high water & on the falling tide the stored water was released through the mill race to turn the wheel.

beachcomber australia Were you referring to this one?

The President of the Dharug and Lower Hawkesbury Historical Society thinks that this one may have been taken at Colo River.
