    Based on the news displayed in the window, this photo was taken on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1940. One of the earthquake news summaries says, "8:45 this morning. More pronounced than the one last Friday morning"; there were 2 earthquakes of note in New England in December 1940, one on the 20th and one on the 24th. 12/20/1940 was a Friday, and with the bit of Santa news also posted, it's definitely the 24th for this photo.

    William Joseph Hill, one of the best known pop songwriters of that time lost his battle with alcohol abuse and died of heart failure. On Sept 24th, 1940, he performed at the Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco. Also performing at that show; Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael, and Johnny Mercer. Three months later, on Christmas Eve, he died of heart failure in a Boston hotel room. He was only 42.

    Delia Larkin, I think, holds the Irish Worker poster. She contributed to it weekly for its three year existence from 1911 to 1914. The printers then grew afraid to print it. She organised the feeding of three thousand children during the lockout and founded the Irish Women's Workers Union. It had distinctive badges and the women here may be wearing them. Davitt was dead since 1906 but W.M. Murphy, his fellow Nationalist, lived on to organise against the workers unions. He owned Dublin Tramways and the Irish Independent. Delia is also in another picture in the collection after the women's imprisonment. Beautiful Picture.

    Mossy Carey I'd agree, thank you!. Her very distinctive hair is a help in identification... I've replaced this photo with a clearer version. Because more detail is apparent, we can date it now to Saturday, 6 December 1913. So, someone identified, and another photo dated: Time to haul out the NLI Flickr Bell again, methinks - Ding, Ding, Ding!
