According to NYTimes obit (see link below), Adolph Lessig "gained nationwide publicity during the silk strike of 1913 when he led the strike as the business agent of the International Workers of the World." There was a silk strike in Paterson, New Jersey in 1913 led by Lessig. Lessig and Haywood were subsequently convicted of being disorderly persons due to a large protest march which formed behind them. So, this composite photograph relates to that. Read some details here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paterson_Silk_Strike_of_1913 And their convictions were later overturned, according to this: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B00E4D8113CE633A... The Patterson in the caption may be amended to spelling Paterson in accordance with the "Paterson" inscribed on the negative.
