St. John's Cathedral, Brisbane, ca. 1915

St John’s Cathedral is home to a community that seeks to bring the best of Anglican tradition into dialogue with the issues and needs of our day. The Cathedral itself, a renowned Brisbane landmark, serves as a magnet, where diverse people gather to worship, celebrate, seek solace, converse, and learn. Source: www.stjohnscathedral.com.au/

Brisbane’s largest and most striking cathedral, St John’s construction from local tuff and Helidon sandstone famously took well over a century, beginning in 1901 and reaching completion in 2009. Despite its imposing Victorian gothic style, uniquely Australian elements have crept in – look for sculptures of whales and a rainbow servant between the portico arches or the Australian animals on stained glass windows. Things are brightened further by the tapestry cushions that have been thoughtfully placed on all the pews. Every one of them is hand-made and depicts an item of Australian fauna or flora – these were the brainchild of Governor Ramsay’s wife who it would seem had attended one too many long uncomfortable services therein and sewed the first one herself. And in a tragic twist of irony, the outstanding circular stained glass window to the north was donated by benefactors to the Collins family in thanks to God for the birth of their only son who was subsequently killed in World War II. Having a dog as a pet is great but having a Wallaby is simply fantastic. A beautiful girl with her furry friends.

The most important thing to remember is that a wallaby is an exotic animal and while they can be tamed and socialized, they are wild animals and are not encouraged as domestic pets. In some areas of Australia, wallabies have been trained to live indoors and show signs of affectionate with a playful spirit. But they’re very intelligent and have learned the ability to open doors and cabinets as well as jump on counters and other high places. They are also known to enjoy taking baths with humans too! Wallabies are friendly creatures that can be very cordial with their caregivers. They can be cuddly and are known to follow people around rooms. They can even coexist with other non-forceful house pets. Source: visitseaquest.com/blog/seaquest-guide-to-wallabies/#:
