The upside-down car is, I think, a VW Type 4 - see the air vents on the 'boot' lid and the horizontal light cluster. The car nearest the image is almost certainly a Ford, probably an Escort or Cortina. The hubcaps and round air-vent point towards one of these, I think. The tiny portion of car in the background looks like an early Audi.

Also the damage on the VW with the light cluster on the side nearest the footpath turned by 90 degrees might indicate the area of impact. The scrape marks and dent on the wing of the Ford could also be significant.

Derailment at Lochinvar, 1959

The location is Lochinvar (not Lockinvar). I have added a new tag but you need to remove the incorrect tag and also correct the photo title. Robert

I guess nothing changes - taxi drivers are dodgy. Public transport should have priority over cars. A taxi did a U-turn in front of a tram I was on and it was a write off. I took some photos: www.flickr.com/photos/furphy/213015383/ and the taxi www.flickr.com/photos/furphy/213015543 -- Seen on your photo stream. (?)

For admirers of Sam Hood's photos, there is a book - Sydney Exposures, Through the eyes of Sam Hood & his studio 1925 - 1950, [probably] published by the State Library of NSW,
