Accompanying note: "MAILMEN'S MOTOR SCOOTERS - These are the new scooters, just received, that Tallahassee mailmen will be using to deliver mail as soon as a brief driver training program can be completed. Only eight have arrived but the rest of the [allotted] 20 is expected soon. Looking them over, left to right, are George Stout, Scooter dealer; J.W. Richardson, a mail carrier and future rider; Leo Stephens, Post Office regional representative, and Dick Sutton, assistant superintendent of mails."

grace!

Wonder what the mailmen thought of their new transport?

Beats walkin'!

These are Cushman Mailsters. Notice the sign at upper left. They were built in Lincoln, Nebraska. Cushman also made a variety of 2-wheeled motor scooters. Search "Cushman Scooter."

My grandfather Edwin B. (E.B. or Ted) Dore' said: Leading Chief Wilmer Draguht addressing sailors at morning muster. Cushman motor scooter in foreground. Smitty is the sailor in the front wearing a white navy hat. Note the relaxed atmosphere for a normally regimented affair. This is indicative of the casual atmosphere day-to-day activities were like on Tinian.
